Matryoshkas BACK TO THE PAPER
Matryoshkas (=Matriushka, Matrushka) nesting dolls were introduced at the end of the 19th century by the Russian artist Sergei Maliutin who painted a wooden doll as a peasant girl with a rooster. Inside of this hollow doll there were seven more dolls all painted differently.
